Guest Preacher Jay Reynardus · Colossians 2:16-23 · Sunday, August 9, 2026
Jay Reynardus came to faith as an adult, read "be holy, for I am holy," and did the obvious thing: he built a list. Go to church. Feed the poor. Stop the Friday nights. He called it the religion of Jay, and he could not keep it. In Colossians 2:16-23 Paul gives five reasons that kind of self-made religion never works — it is of the world, it is perishing, it is human tradition, it only looks like wisdom, and it is something we made up ourselves. Then he turns the question on its head. The answer is not a what; it is a who. Union with Christ is the foundation of holiness, communion with Christ is the means, and holiness is the result — a byproduct of proximity, like fruit on a branch that only has to stay attached. You do not break a chain by gritting your teeth against it. You break it by loving something greater. Do you want to be holy? You need one thing: more Jesus.

Last Week's Pulse
▸
"Greater Than Your Religion - Colossians 2:16-23" is in the homepage hero now; the numbers below are last week's. First-party counters, not GA4 — aggregate only, nothing traceable to a person.
Watch depth: 0 → 0 → 0 → 0 reached 25/50/75/100%, so 0.0% of plays ran to the end.
Per-sermon lifetime views by Sunday across all six surfaces — each point is one sermon (date · speaker). YouTube = views; Homepage hero = plays of the condensed cut on christchurchmiami.org. Lifetime totals, not weekly deltas. The gold band (0–50) is shown at 2× vertical scale so the low-volume surfaces have room for detail; above the dotted line the scale returns to normal (1:1).
† Aug 9 = live viewing only (newest sermon; on-demand views still accruing).
What Worked / What to Watch
▸
🟢 ✅ Everything we scheduled actually sent. Twenty-nine of twenty-nine — 25 Instagram Stories and 4 YouTube Shorts — against 11 of 30 the week before. Last week's report called the draft backlog "the single most fixable thing on this page." It was fixed, and this is what the fix looks like in numbers rather than in intent. Nothing is sitting in `draft` for this window at all.
🟢 🌐 The audience doubled. Users 249 → 503 and sessions 359 → 585 in the first full week of the new site with its campaign firing properly behind it. Last week the site grew despite the announcement campaign; this week the campaign ran, and the traffic response was immediate.
🟢 📺 The YouTube baseline held. The headline number looks bad and isn't: last week's 818 was one 531-view Sunday on a 287 baseline, and this week came in at 290. Flat is the correct read, not a collapse — and flat while the channel published a full slate of four Shorts, a condensed cut, a Spanish dub and a complete-service upload.
🟢 🇪🇸 Spanish shipped on the same day again, not trailing. The dubbed sermon, Spanish transcript, study guide, podcast episode, devotionals and the translated blog all landed with the English, plus a Spanish Story every evening at 7 PM. Second consecutive week at same-day parity.
🟢 🎯 One blog by decision. The cadence assumes two and the week shipped one, because that was the call rather than a slip. Worth recording explicitly so the gap doesn't read later as a miss.
🟡 📉 Engagement fell 61.8% → 47.4% while traffic doubled. Page views rose only 21% against 102% more users, so pages per session dropped 2.41 → 1.79. The plain reading is that the new arrivals are landing on one page and leaving. That is normal for a surge and is not yet a problem — but it does mean the doubled user count is the most flattering number on this page, and the honest test is next week: if engagement recovers as the spike decays, this was reach. If it stays at 47%, we bought traffic that never intended to stay.
🟡 🔁 Shares fell 10 → 2. The softest signal on the YouTube tile and the one least explained by the spike-day arithmetic, because shares don't spike the way views do. Sharing is the metric that reflects people actively passing a sermon on rather than passively receiving it, so two weeks of this would be worth a real look at whether the clips are landing.
🟡 📱 Instagram is still the last hand-read channel. Everything we schedule to Instagram is now measured precisely — 25 sent, none stranded. What Instagram reports back (Views, Reach, Interactions) still has to be copied out of the professional dashboard by hand, so those three tiles are empty again this week. It is the only remaining tile on this page without an automated source.
