Pastor Kent Keller · 1 Peter 4:12–19 · Sunday, May 24, 2026
If God is all good, all loving, and all powerful — why is there so much sin, suffering, and evil in the world? In this week's sermon at Christchurch Miami, Pastor Kent Keller works through the hardest question Christians and skeptics share. From 1 Peter 4:12–19, Kent walks us through three movements: don't be surprised by suffering, don't be unprepared for what comes next, and don't lose sight of the final outcome. The Bible was written by suffering people to suffering people. God himself, in Jesus, entered our suffering first — and the pattern that runs through the whole biblical story is suffering, then judgment, then glory.

Last Week's Pulse

Per-sermon lifetime views by Sunday across all five surfaces — each point is one sermon (date · speaker). YouTube = views; Subsplash = plays. Lifetime totals, not weekly deltas. The gold band (0–50) is shown at 2× vertical scale so the low-volume surfaces have room for detail; above the dotted line the scale returns to normal (1:1).
† May 24 = live viewing only (newest sermon; on-demand views still accruing).
What Worked / What to Watch

Two Thursday companion blogs in one day, plus a Sunday sermon — three pastoral voices, no overlap. Kent's Community of the Broken Memorial Day reflection and Heidi's How Will You Invest Your Summer? both landed Sunday 5/24, lining up beside Kent's sermon publish. That's the densest pastoral-content week we've shipped since the Easter run, and the surfaces stayed distinct: sermon = apologetics question, Kent's blog = Memorial Day + brokenness, Heidi's blog = parenting + summer rhythms.
The field-devotion drumbeat compounded again on engagement, not breadth. James's Passover and the Blood of Jesus (5/21) is the fourth field devotion in the series — the depth pattern that emerged in late April (long engagement time on blog, doubled Mailchimp opens, FB-share momentum compounding week-over-week) continued into the 5/17 sermon week. See the Pulse card for the numerical detail straight from the analytics Sheet.
Infrastructure leveled up. The prayer-graphics drop page now has 30 rotation options (was 10) and a 4-slot weekly cadence baked into the manifest — a 4× expansion of prayer surface area to `prayer.christchurchmiami.org`. The Watch-the-Sermon graphics were rebuilt to a cleaner template that should hold for the rest of the What About? series.
Spanish YouTube — the 5/17 cut was unlisted all week (publish-state mistake, see Jeff's note below). The 0 views you'll see in the Pulse card isn't a feed-discovery issue or a HeyGen quality issue — visibility was set to Unlisted on upload. It's flipped to Public now. The real question — does the Sunday-afternoon-publish + cross-promotion lever move Spanish reach — stays open and gets a fair test starting with the 5/24 Spanish cut.
Kent's sermon blog approval is the gating event for the Thursday cluster. Six pipeline items (`sun-23/24/25`, `thu-3/4/5`) all wait on Kent's sign-off. The blog draft is finished; the EN YouTube description and Subsplash Web Link #3 are pre-baked for the URL. If approval slips past Wednesday EOD, Thursday publish becomes a fire drill — flag early.
HD/Code-owned slot-picker timing. Four prayer Stories per week is the new normal, but until HD ships the multi-cadence slot-picker (recurring-schedule.json `cadences[]` array + Worker iteration logic), each Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday slot is a manual `/_schedule/import`. That's 4 manual calls/week vs. 1 click — fine for a week or two, friction if it stretches into June.
Note from Jeff

Heads up on the Spanish YouTube number — my mistake. The 5/17 Spanish sermon uploaded to YouTube fine, but I left visibility on Unlisted instead of Public — so it sat invisible from Sunday through this morning. That's the whole reason for the 0-view Spanish number in the Pulse card; it isn't a feed-discovery failure or a HeyGen quality issue. Visibility is corrected now, and I'm adding a "verify visibility = Public" step to the YouTube metadata checklist so this can't recur. The 5/24 Spanish cut goes up clean and becomes the fair test of whether the Sunday-afternoon-publish lever actually moves Spanish reach. — Jeff
